Once if you were in Boston, I strongly recommend that you should go out of Boston if you are interested in that. Downtown Boston has lots of tourist points which are very classical and historical, even though the suburbs are absolutely beautiful. Pure nature still exists. I visited Cape Cod many times in summer time, even winter time. During summer time, people just go there and enjoy their life. There is nothing to bother you. In winter, it is really hard to get there, but you have never seen such a beautiful landscape. It represents an absolutely different world. Summer is almost gone, but if you have time to go, don't miss your chance!

Heidi -(Sung Eun Kim) MY MISTAKE- Advice to new students!

Don't make a mistake like I did. When I came here, I felt that transportation was good in Boston. For example, I took a bus and T. First time, I didn't know which station was near Prudential or Boston common, something like that. One day, I had an appointment with my friend. He has lived here since he came here in 1997. He wanted to introduce to me a Korean restarant in Boston. I was happy. He said, we had to meet at Symphony Station at 5:00. After school, I left the dorm at 3:40. I thought it was enough time to go downtown. However, when I went to Riverside Station, I found that I had no change. Even though I told some of the staff in the T station they didn't help me. So, I spent a lot of time in riverside station. Anyway, I took a train. However, I had to change to take the B-line. It was my first time changing to another T. At the time, I was very nervous because it was time to meet my friend. I took the wrong T. Therefore, I wasted time again. When I arrived at symphony station, I found that Copley and Symphony station were very close!! I didn't need to take a T and waste time. I think the gap between station and station was very close. Therefore, we can walk somewhere in downtown Boston. New students, if you go downtown in Boston, you can enjoy your time by foot. It is good for students.

I like Boston because the city is beautiful. It is worth walking in Boston. I recommend ''Boston Common''. It is the biggest park in Boston. Many Bostonians are there. You can talk with them. You can improve your English skill in the park. Also I like the center of Boston. You can see a lot of great buildings. Also you can buy something in Prudential Center.

In boston, there are a lot of universities. For example, Harvard U, Boston U, Boston College, and MIT. I think these are very famous not only in the US but also in the world. You probably want to study harder and harder....

I would like to recommend the Museum of Fine Arts.(However I have never been there.) My friends often go there and they tell me to go there. So I think it is good. Let's go together someday!!We should go there whenever we come to Boston.

I think Boston is one of the most beautiful towns. Whenever you visit Boston, you have a great time and enjoy the trip or your life in Boston!!

How are you doing? I am glad. At first, I am really sorry to you. I do not want to be absent from my last class with you, but the travel agency told me that I could leave only on Friday and Wednesday. Some of us have classes next week so I had to choose that day.

What am I going to advise or tell my, kind of, offspring? I would like to ask you why you came here. You should study before returning to your country. I recommend trying your best while staying here and enjoying yourselves. This must be a great chance for everyone.

You guys must see Harvard, MIT and take some sort of trip; visit Salem, Bunker Hill and Cape Cod. It is going to be a terrific experience.

For improving your English, you always need to speak English instead of your own language. And do not be afraid of failing on grammar and making some mistakes. You have to speak English as much as possible.

At last but not least, if you concentrate on your class, you will be getting much better than you expected.

You are really lucky guys because you can be with an amazing teacher, Mary Ellen. Good luck!

Hello! I'm Daisuke Kobayashi.

If you want to go to Fenway Park to see a baseball game, I recommend wearing a Yankees t-shirt, especiallyfor the game of Red sox against Yankees. When I went there, I wore a Yankees t-shirt. Most of the Red Sox fans stared at me and someone said to me "FxxK". While I was standing on the aisle, someone hit my back. It is thanks to wearing Yankees t-shirt that I had a good time watching the game. I think Red Sox fans are most kind and polite in the world. (only kidding) Particularly, they are kind to people who are wearing a Yankees t-shirt. Let's go to Fenway Park wearing a Yankees t-shirt!

Boston is one of the most beautiful cities. There are many public parks and rivers.
You can touch nature a lot. Boston common is also a beautiful park. There are many squirrels there.
Some people play ball games, others take a nap, and others are dating there.
You should go to Boston Common and other parks. You should walk along Charles River. There are many beautiful buildings which are made of bricks.

Boston is an academic city.
There are Harvard University, Massachusetts Instiute of Thechnology, Boston College, and etc.
When I went to Harvard University, I felt to be a clever person.

There are famous sport teams in Boston.
The baseball team, Boston Red Sox, is the world champion team in 2004 season.
I recommend going to Fenway Park to watch baseball games.
You will be able to feel very exciting atmosphere.
The football team, New England Ptriots, is also the world champion team in 2004 season.
However, the proffesional football game tickets are very expensive, so I recomend going to college football games. Boston College Eagles is one of the strong teams.

It was an excellent experience to me to spend time here.

I arrived in Boston at the end of May, it was too cold at that time. I hadn't seen sunny days for about a week. I thought that it was usual, but it was not.

In fact, I was so worried about my English skill before I came here. I always wondered whether or not American can understand what I say. They seemed to guess my words, not to understand that.

I think that I was short of confidence at that time. Students who study English, including me, want to speak English fluently like native speakers, but I think that's avarice. We can't be native speakers because we are really not native speakers. Now, I know how full I was and what I have to do from now on.

One of the most important things is to learn American culture, I think, that's why we are studying here, not in our own countries. I haven't been gorgeous places, haven't had special foods or enjoyed terrific night lives yet, but I would try to do that.


I'm a stranger until now, but I'll tell you something good in Boston. Boston is a historic city. There are a lot of antique buildings which were built in early 1800's in downtown Boston, Beacon Hill is very famous for that. And we are also able to have great sea food here. As you know, Boston is a coast city, so we can have that with cheap price.

Summer is the best season for you. A river named Charles River runs through the center of Boston. A lot of Bostonians, as well as visiters, go kayaking and canoeing in summer. A couple of weeks ago, I got on a ferry and saw lots of boats on the river. The riverside scinery was really good.

There are many things that you have to do here besides what I said. Come and enjoy a life here~ Everyone is waiting for you~!!

This is my mistake story which I did.

That's a big happening for me when I go out with my friend to drink alcohol in the evening. We always go to bar aroud 9pm, and we usualy eat something and drink alcohol by midnight.

At the first time, I went to the restaurant near Copley with him who is one of my American friend, and we ate Sushi and drunk alcohol. We forgot the time which we had to catch the last train because it was good time. However I noticed what time it was now, and then I asked him what time the last train works. He answerd me that there was the last train by 1am because of the weekend at that time. Unfortunately, I believed him because he is an american who live in Boston even though there was no train by 1am.

After we went out from the restaurant at the midnight, we sat on the road along the Boylston street, and he played the guitar. Although, it became less and less the time which I could catch the last train. Afterword, we was supporsed to go to the station, but we couldn't enter there. It had already closed.

There was no way!! At that time, he rearized that he had misunderstood that. We had to think how we could get to the house. There were two way that we gat to the house. One of them, we had to take a taxi.( Fortunately, we live close area.) The other way, we had to wait for the first train. We desided that we took a taxi, but there was no taxi the place we were, so we started walking to near Kenmore.

Twenty minutes later. that was a big happening for me!! I wanted to go to restroon, even though there was no restrant which still open. However we tried to find out it. It was very difficult to do it because of the time that almost 1;30am. The longer we spend the time, the worse my condition.
Suddenly, he told me that you should do that ( pee)in the park!! I was surapraised to hear that, and I couldn't understand what he said. I know that he can do that in the park because of a guy.

Fortunately, we could find out a hotel, so we asked the bellboy. I could escape from terible situation.

The second time, we met again to drink alcohol at the night. It was around 11pm that we finished to drink alcohol this time, after that we went to the Boston Poblic Gerden. We talked almost a hour, unfortunatly I wanted to go to restroom again. However It was also difficult to find out it. We went to Mcdonald, BurgerKing and other firstfood restaurant, but they had already closed at that time. Suddenly, he told me that I should do that in the park again. I could not believe why he said that to me even though I don't want to understand what he think so far.

There were so many people near Park Street station, so we kept on finding out it. Afterward, we could find out a bar which I could use the restroom.

I recognized that I have to think that there are the restroom in the place where we are going when I go out to drink alcohol. I think alcohol make me that I want to go to the restroom,so I have to go to the restroom before I go out the restaurant.

It is easy to find out the restroom in Japan, because there are a lot of convinience store which open 24 hours and have the restroom. However, there is nothing such a place in Boston. We should not forget that.
